My system is essentially an EVO150 with various analogue and digital sources including Tidal and was purchased as an upgrade to my Arcam A85. An instant improvement even to my aging and steelworks battered eardrums. My speakers are 23yr old AVI Positron Monitors H770, W170, D260 which after the upgrade to the EVO150 showed their limitations. I have listened to Neat Mystique Classics, Spendor A2 and A4 and have borrowed a pair of Amphion Argon 1 and PMC Phoenix 1. Apart from the PMCs all the speakers had good detail and soundstage but sounded very laid back. The PMCs get closest to the sound I am after and also the physical size for our small listening room but they still lack the vocal clarity that my old AVIs have. The detail is better as are the sound stage and bass but the vocal clarity is similar and lacks impact so I would like a bit more excitement.
Really would appreciate feedback on small bookshelf of floor standers, especially Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 as I haven't heard these.
